Provo Utah Temple, 2003

In 2003 the decision was made to add an Angel Moroni Statue to the spire of the temple. This was accomplished by removing the upper 2 gilded sections of the spire, placing a new cap atop the topmost section, then placing the statue atop that. The fiberglass of the remaining spire was then painted white.

Early plans for the temple featured the statue atop the spire, however, the statue was not included. It is of interest to not that to that point, only metal statues had been used atop spires, requiring large bulky support structures within the spire.

This video also depicts the landscaping changes made in 2005.

Provo Utah Temple, 1972

I made up a model of the Provo Temple as it would have looked at the time of dedication. I considered doing all kinds of stuff with the surrounding terrain, but essentially ran out of time. The area where the temple is now located was a fair bit less populated than it is now. Also, probably should not be so many trees. But it is done for now, and with the recent closing of the temple for renovation, I thought I would go ahead and share the video now.

Anchorage Alaska Temple, 2026

The Anchorage Alaska Temple, ~2025

The Anchorage Temple will close soon for an extensive “reconstruction” that will consist of building a new temple further north on the lot where the Stake Center currently sits. After completion of the new temple, the original structure will be removed, and a new Stake Center built at that location.

This video has been put together from the Church’s official render, and by information presented to the city.

The Anchorage Alaska Temple, 2004

The Anchorage Alaska Temple was expanded just a few short years after dedication. The expansion added another Endowment Room, and a second Sealing Room. Because the temple had initially been built upon a small hillock, the expansion took the form of 2 stories. This expansion gave it a unique, asymmetrical look, and wrapped the temple around a small courtyard. After completion of the expansion, the temple was rededicated by President Gordon B. Hinckley.

St. George Utah Temple (1938-1958)

I have been very, very, busy with work. Oh, so very busy. But, today I discovered that I had already rendered out a historic video (and possibly some others) that I had not posted the video for.

This video represents the St. George Utah Temple after the 1938 renovation. This was a whole new annex, and appears to have kept nothing of the original. It was more modern, more aesthetically pleasing, and less utilitarian than the previous annex versions.

Along with this annex video being posted, I have made some discoveries about the previous videos that I need to correct. I have pinned down a date for the creation of the original first annex. I discovered that the Annex was not burned down completely by the 1927 fire, but was renovated starting immediately.

I am going to spend some free time today to update all the previous posts, identifying which ones are incorrect, and fixing the temple wiki.

Bountiful Utah, Lindon Utah, and Orem Utah Photography now available.

I have uploaded some more photography for free use. One of these temples (Lindon) I first visited just today. Another one, Orem, was my second visit, but for now, I have misplaced my first set, so I will upload that later. BUT, it was photos of the early grading of the site, so nothing worth stressing over.
