McAllen Texas

McAllen Texas Temple, first draft video

I don’t know why, but this one took me a long time to finish. I am very happy with the results, however, so totally worth it.

I used more bird sounds than normal on this video, but there were so many good ones, and all of them recorded just a couple miles from the site. There is a clip of a bunch of green parakeets being very chatty, and those were recorded about a block from the temple site.

Lubbock Texas Temple

Look close at this image of the Lubbock Texas Temple model. You will see that the spire looks really funny. I spent time on this update looking into proportions and measurements. In the process I found that I had the spire to narrow, and possibly to short. We shall see if it gets taller as I go along. Most of what I worked on is not obvious. Lots of little tweaks and fixes that will hopefully get me closer to a realistic look.  I need to finish the spire, enclose the archways along the raised center section, and finish adding windows to the North Side of the temple. Then I can finally get into the grounds. A couple more times through with this one before it is done, I think.

Wednesday at San Antonio Texas

Touches on the grounds, and major details on the San Antonio Texas Temple model today. San Antonio is a great little temple. I have been to it once, but the grounds were closed. I have been finding decent references for the Temple elsewhere, rather than finding them in my own photos. Most of the work I did today is in the trim, it’s hard to see, but it’s there.

Saturday at San Antonio

I needed a bit of a break from architecture, so today I worked on the grounds of the San Antonio Texas Temple. The grounds here are absolutely fascinating. The parking lot sits on 2 levels, and there are 3 terraces around the temple itself, with the addition of a new pergola and an elevator to compensate for the very long wheelchair access ramp. I got the elevator started, but the pergola will come later. Here is my render from last month:

Thursday at Lubbock Texas

Sometimes the best way to get the details right is to start adding the texture and allow it to be the guide. I kind of did that here, cutting a few side pieces out of photos I had taken and using them as templates to line up the trim pieces and windows. And once you have done that, you may as well just change the temporary texture into the final. I spent an hour+ tweaking the texture for the Empress White Granite that makes up the majority of this temple. I think I have finally found a way that will allow me to use one texture without it looking like it is just repeatedly stamped across the side of the model.
