Off to Mesa!

We are on our way to Mesa Arizona, a journey that should only take about 26 minutes. This is our shortest hop so far, but not the shortest we will have overall. We may not get all the time we need to read the Mesa Arizona Temple history and the two Dedicatory Prayers (1927, 1975,) but we will have time to catch up this afternoon. we plan to be on site about an hour.

This temple will close for renovations starting next month.

Mesa Arizona Temple video is now online!

I have finished my Mesa Arizona Temple model and video! As usual, there are some issues with the video. It is difficult to check the layout of trees before render, as they use up so much memory that everything moves so slow or crashes in a preview mode. Consequently I did not notice that as the camera passes through the south west corner of the lot, the temple is completely obscured by a couple of trees for a couple of seconds. One of these days I will have to render a new video, but that too is time intensive,s o it will have to wait.

Mesa Arizona Temple progress

I finished lots of tiny details at the Mesa Arizona Temple today. Most of the upper temple is now finished. I have not started the friezes, and I am hesitant too after all the trouble the 4 at Laie have given me. I think I can find photos of the friezes without such a large shadow contrast, which should allow me to speed things up.  They are also not as deep as the Hawaii ones, which is also a positive. I need to finish the lower portion, and of course the grounds, but I am pleased with the amount of progress I made here.

Wednesday at Newport Beach California

Much progress was mad on the Newport California Temple model today. The entryway is all that is left to be modeled on the temple itself. The grounds are a bit complex and will take more time. I started on the leaf motif that circles around the upper portion of the temple. You can see it here as a light pink band that runs through the darker pink portion of the temple. The rest of that should go quickly now that I have the shape figured out. The dome over the Celestial room is now how I need it to be, and the bottom half of the spire is done. It’s always nice when they start to look like their namesakes.

Mesa Arizona

When I go to add detail to my rough in, sometimes I just start cutting in lines and pulling out new geometry. Sometimes I start all over and use the original rough in as a reference tool. I almost hit that second point with Mesa today. I was able to get some new information that told me that my model was way to short. During the process of scaling, much of the geometry was found to have major flaws. Entire sections of walls were abandoned and I just redrew them.

You should notice some windows have been added. Also, I have the capitals on the pillars now. Those took a significant amount of time all by themselves. It was well worth it though.

This corner is essentially done now, with the exception of the upper portions, the Friezes and some detailing around the top. But it was much more progress than it looks like at a glance.
