Pocatello Idaho

Morning Edition

Obviously I did some work last night, and I may have done a little more this morning as well. I have added the basic terrain for the model. Keep in mind, this is a guess. I know that this is the plot of land the Church has chosen to build the temple I also know about how big the land is. However, I do not know where on the lot, or how big the temple is in relation to the lot. That part is all guesswork on my behalf. The sizing on the lot is based upon the size of the Meridian Temple.

Evening Update on Pocatello Idaho

I had plans to get up to just the base of the spire today, but stuff came up, and I didn’t get what I wanted done. Still, not bad for a day’s work. The upper 2 stories follow similar design ques to the base story. Larger trim work, and there are these large metal panels between the upper and lower stories. There is some kind of detail work there, but as of yet I have not been able to identify exactly what it might be. For now I have left them plain as I work my way up.

Is till need to adjust the textures on these 2 stories, but this is mostly done in regards to the actual mesh work. There is a wheat detail visible on the upper portion of the pillars between the windows. I still want to make that and get it on there too.

Lunch Time progress

I love mornings now that School is back in session. 2 Kids at school, 1 down for a nap, and the 1 left following me around loves to sort Laundry with me. This morning has been just that. Laundry, and more updates to the Pocatello Model.

Also, I was distracted by the release of the interior photos for the Concepción Chile interior images, so go check those out if you have not done so already.

The windows have this fascinating 8 sided medallion above them. The render is not high enough resolution to identify exactly what it looks like, but I am hoping I am close enough for now. I added the notched details around the window, and noticed that at least 2 corners of the bottom story have inset rounds on them.  Lot’s of small details here. I got work on the entryway as well, mostly done with that now, I think.

Right now, during the initial modeling, the whole temple is mirrored, left to right, back to front. As I can’t see what I assume is the North and East sides in the render, I have to just guess. So for now, I am guessing the temple has an entrance on both sides. This makes sense if it turns out the temple is in the center of the lot.

Next up are the second and third floor and all the accompanying details up there.

Base details for Pocatello

Long ways to go still. I noticed today there are some fun details around the windows. Not only the dark metal detailing above and around the window frames, but there appears to be a groove cut around each of the base story windows, giving just a bit of extra shape and detail around the windows. I have not added those to my model yet. Still not sure how to tackle that little bit of detailing.

Regardless, here is the little bit of progress for this morning. I had a few minutes after breakfast and before getting the kids to school to work on this. And, as I don’t have 100 other temples I am trying to finish, I figured I would throw myself into this one for now.

Pocatello Idaho comes into focus.

Today, September 6, 2018, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released the render for the Pocatello Idaho Temple. See the link and the official render here.

I have begun the process of reproducing the render. I will share my progress as I go, and will keep you updated on interesting things I find. Keep in mind, at this point, the official render is an artistic interpretation, and the final plans could change at any time! This means this is a rough in for what could, ultimately, be a first draft for the Church as well.

Observations of the image, and the initial rough in lead me to believe that this is a variation of the floorplan used for Meridian Idaho Temple.

Going off the assumption that this is a modification of Meridian, here is a comparison:
